For Professionals

The NICU NEST Read to My Preemie program aims to address critical gaps in early literacy and caregiver support for BIPOC families with preemies in the Philadelphia area. By centering both early literacy and caregiver support, we strive to equip families with the tools and resources needed to encourage reading, strengthen bonding, and support early childhood development.

Once Upon A Preemie, Inc.’s NICU NEST: Read To My Preemie program will operate through three key components:

Virtual Support Groups

Families will have access to co-facilitated support groups with Wolomi, creating a safe space for current NICU families to share experiences, learn coping strategies, and receive emotional and early literacy support from both peers and professionals. Each virtual group will welcome up to 25 Philadelphia-based families.

Educational Workshops

The program will offer one-hour, in-person educational workshops led by NICU and Early Childhood Development professionals. These interactive sessions will feature expert-led discussions and activities that empower caregivers with practical tools to support early literacy and bonding. Families attending in person will also have access to light refreshments and the NICU Nest Mobile Library (book resources).

Resources

To further support caregivers, the program will offer a variety of resources tailored to the evolving needs of families. These resources will equip them with essential tools to promote their child’s development and will include a mobile library, infant care supplies, and literature to support parent/child bonding and early literacy.
